Paul writes to explain to his friends how he is doing, and how the Gospel is doing, since his imprisonment. How is the Gospel doing, amongst us?
Paul has not entered into friendship with the Philippians lightly, so the Philippians have clearly done a great deal extremely well. Yet he still encourages them to greater heights, in a tick-tock rhythm of encouragement: “Well done”; "Move on”.
